FROZEN ALLIGATOR CAJUN BAYOU HERITAGE FESTIVAL 1997

If you missed the FROZEN ALLIGATOR CAJUN BAYOU HERITAGE FESTIVAL on February 8, 1997 at the Ohio Theatre, then you really  didn't celebrate Mardi Gras (at least if you weren't in Louisiana). The second Frozen Alligator festival was even more exciting than the first one, held in 1995 at the Toledo Zoo. Outstanding Cajun music performed by D  L Menard & the Louisiana Aces and red hot Zydeco played by Roy Carrier & the Night Rockers took Toledoans by storm. Jambalaya, gumbo, red beans & rice and dirty rice were served by the legendary Captain  Creole, and Les Blank's documentary "Hot Pepper" on the late great King of Zydeco Clifton Chenier filled out the night.

Actually D L Menard worked miracles just by showing up - the day before the show he was in a Lafayette, LA hospital for a  heart ailment. Mr D L was determined to play Toledo and he, along with fiddle player Leo Abshire and young accordian wizard Horace Trahan, flew up the cold midwest for a spellbinding performance.

Roy Carrier was not to be outdone and showed northwestern Ohio that though they may be familiar with his son Chubby's  performances, that the patriarch is the real master in the Carrier family.
